  • DIVING
Fuerteventura, the subaquatic paradise of the Canary Islands. The marvellous submarine lava rivers and abundant fish life, all make Fuerteventura one of the most attractive diving locations in Europe.
  • The sea lapping at the shore of the island is shallow, and the seabed is flat and sandy. Due to volcanic formations in some areas, there are cornices, tunnels, contour intervals and caves. As far as the seabed is concerned, it is possible to make out two different areas: the windward side and the leeward side. In the north, the diving area comprises the seabed between Corralejo (town in the municipal area of La Oliva) and the Isla de Lobos (Protected Nature Reserve) forming a triangle with its vertexes at Punta Gorda to the north, Lobos to the west, the 100 metre contour interval beyond the Islet, and Barca Quebrada to the south.
  • - El Calamareo This area is situated to the northwest of Corralejo, at a distance of approximately one kilometre from the coast (towards Lanzarote). This contour interval made up of volcanic rock at the top and sandstone at the bottom is situated between about 15 and 25 metres. Some of the animals which can be seen are forkbeards, glasseyes, slipper lobsters and in the open seas, parrotfish, dusky grouper, comb grouper, striped barracuda, etc.

  • - La Bocaina This is located to the west of the area mentioned above. This contour interval is made up of rocks and deep caves, home to glasseyes, dusky grouper, comb grouper, white bream, etc.
  • - El Bajón del Río This is located in the strait between Fuerteventura and Isla de Lobos, to the east of Corralejo. On the seabed, it is worth mentioning the volcanic rock formations and calcareous white sand. Maximum depth of 15 metres. An area with a large variety of wildlife: dusky grouper, white bream, comb grouper, shoals of small fish.
  • - La Carrera Located on the south-east coast of the Isla de Lobos and characterised by a horseshoe formation.
  • - Los Becerros Situated between Fuerteventura and the Isla de Lobos. It has a sandy and rocky seabed.
