About Fuerteventura
...is NOT located in the Mediterranean Sea, but in the
Atlantic Ocean.
Fuerteventura belongs to the Canary Islands.
Geographically the island belongs to Africa. It is situated on the same
latitude as the Bahamas, Mexico, South Morrocco and is only about
100 km away from the African continent.
Although Fuerteventura became shallow through erosion, it offers a
variety of interesting aspects: wide plains, gentle hills, rugged rocks,
jagged cliffs, black streams of lava, caves of volcanic origin and some
of the most beautiful beaches found in Europe.
However, a mile-and-a-half to the north is the commencement of the National Parc of Dunes or "Grandes Playas", some of the best beaches in Europe with nearly seven miles of fine, white sand, spectacular sand dunes and turquoise seas leading all the way to Corralejo.
No other Canary Island offers as much sun, sand and ocean as
Fuerteventura does. With a yearly average temperature of 22°C
the island invites you to visit its beaches and then to continue to
the inner part to get to know the magnificent and peaceful
landscapes.
Both at the west- and at the east coast, miles of wonderful sandy
beaches can be found, which build an uncomparable frame for
the beauty of the center of the island.
Exciting facilities like water sports or hiking can be found in the
North-East at the dunes of Corralejo. Puerto del Rosario and
Corralejo are city-like areas, whereas sleepy fishing villages are
situated along the west coast and the up-country offers local
villages, forming an oasis in the desert of civilisation.
The rural face of the Island can be found in the centre of Fuerteventura:
tiny villages, forsaken windmills, deserted streets, hardly a tree or bush
and the silence is perfect.
Colourful however are the tomato plantations at Tuineje and the green
palm oasis of Vega de Rio de Palmas.
Divers coming to Fuerteventura will not be disappointed. The island
offers the widest selection of aquatic life in the South Atlantic, more
than on any other of the Canaries.
It also boasts an ideal climate with temperatures varying slightly
during the year from 25 - 32°C in the summertime and 24 - 26°C
in winter. The water temperature is about 18 - 22°C.
Fuerteventura is the ideal location for allergic and asthmatic people,
who will feel a distinct ease because of the marked air-dry and
subtropical desert climate.
A whole island full of beauty is waiting for you, leave stress behind you.
Spend unforgettable holidays.
Only a stones throw away from Central Europe -
Fuerteventura, the peaceful island.
